Burning House Floats While IMAX History Unfolds

Kanye West's Donda 2 debut required unprecedented innovation: a Miami listening experience featuring a replica of his childhood home and the first-ever live concert broadcast across 60 IMAX theaters nationwide. PHNTM faced the challenge of transforming LoanDepot Park into a dream-like realm while pioneering live IMAX broadcasting technology, all within a compressed 22-day timeline under immense public scrutiny.

Approach

Working with creative director Niklas Bildstein Zaar, we conceptualized Ye's childhood home floating on a giant pond, burning as the show opener and concluding as a smoldering structure on smoke-laden water. Our team engineered a 300,000-gallon pool, built the to-scale house, and coordinated massive special effects packages. We developed custom biometric monitoring feeding Ye's live heartbeat data to theaters and streaming platforms.

Impact

The Donda 2 Experience marked a historic moment for live concert broadcasting, reaching audiences across fifteen cities and creating one of Miami's most memorable live experiences. The groundbreaking IMAX integration drew praise from industry leaders while demonstrating our capacity to deliver innovative, large-scale productions. This pioneering event set new standards for live concert broadcasting and immersive entertainment experiences worldwide.
